Arthur and I are often asked (by friends, family, people we are doing business with, even total strangers), “What made you move to Atlanta?” Or once they find out we are from Michigan, another common question is, “Do you have family in Atlanta?” And, of course, the answer is yes, we have family in Atlanta…but that’s not why we moved. One person that knew we were heavily involved in church even asked (sort of an implied question) if we had moved because of a church we had found down here.
Well, the Lord impressed upon me to tell you our story.
A little more than 20 years ago, a friend of my (middle) sister said to her, “I see your sister and her husband in Atlanta.” Now, she was actually speaking prophetically, but we did not know that at the time so we “heard”, but probably didn’t give it a lot of thought at that time.
But then a few years later, the Lord placed it upon our heart so strong that I actually went into work the next day, told my boss we were moving to Atlanta and called to the plant in Atlanta to ask if there were any office jobs available. He told me that I was about the fifth person to call to get transferred to Atlanta, but there were no positions at the time. This was a good thing. Why? Because this was definitely not God’s timing for us to move. Oh, and by the way, a few years after that, the Ford plant closed. God’s timing is the BEST timing!
So now we were waiting for God to say when it was His time for us to move South. What is God telling you to do? Move? Change jobs? Ask that young lady for a date? Go back to college? Get your GED?
In August 2012, we began to feel that the time was getting close for us to leave, but we still did not have clarity. Although our kids knew we would be moving at some point, we did not share that we felt it was getting close because we still had no specifics. Well, as He has done in the past, God spoke to our daughter while she was at work. When she came home, here’s what she said, “I was at work last night and the Lord said to tell your parents that it’s time to move to Atlanta.” My mouth went open and I knew it was confirmation. When Arthur came home later and Jen told him the same thing, he started rejoicing and began to think okay, probably about two years from now we’ll move. But, then Jennifer said, “….and He said it will be soon.” Pop! That bubble got burst! Can you say “get ready!”, “get ready!”, “get ready!”?
What is God telling you to do? Preach? Teach? Sing? Pray for the sick? Evangelize? Maybe direct the choir?
Oh, and there’s one more thing…………The Lord also told Jennifer to tell us, “and don’t be trying to take everything”. No furniture, no pots and pans……just the clothes on our back, important papers, etc. We felt like Abraham and Sarah when God told them to just “GO”.
But we were as happy as we could be! Why? Because we knew and still know we were/are in the Will of God. What is God telling you to do? Write a book? Apply for that job you think you are not qualified for? Pursue a lifelong dream that you gave up on and feel it’s too late to go back to because you feel you are now “too old” (age truly is just a number)?
The Lord gave Arthur the date of March 30, which was 8 months from when the Lord confirmed that it was time…..and everyone knows what the number 8 means Biblically, right? NEW BEGINNING……and was it ever!
What is God telling you to do and what is stopping you? God led us and met us EVERY STEP of the way. So if there is something that you know that you know God is telling you to do……do it, as you acknowledge Him, he WILL direct your step and lead you down the right path. But YOU must take the first step! He’s not going to pull you!
So today, I encourage you as Apostle Rita Johnson encouraged us many years ago……LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP! Become like Peter and “walk on water”…….meaning do the impossible because with God what man thinks is impossible suddenly becomes possible! Become a doctor at 60. Go over to a third world country at 55. Start a business at 20. Establish a world wide ministry at 70! With God……..the sky truly is the limit!
