WHAT IS GOD TELLING YOU TO DO?

Standard

Arthur and I are often asked (by friends, family, people we are doing business with, even total strangers), “What made you move to Atlanta?”  Or once they find out we are from Michigan, another common question is, “Do you have family in Atlanta?”  And, of course, the answer is yes, we have family in Atlanta…but that’s not why we moved.  One person that knew we were heavily involved in church even asked (sort of an implied question) if we had moved because of a church we had found down here.

Well, the Lord impressed upon me to tell you our story.

A little more than 20 years ago, a friend of my (middle) sister said to her, “I see your sister and her husband in Atlanta.”  Now, she was actually speaking prophetically, but we did not know that at the time so we “heard”, but probably didn’t give it a lot of thought at that time.

But then a few years later, the Lord placed it upon our heart so strong that I actually went into work the next day, told my boss we were moving to Atlanta and called to the plant in Atlanta to ask if there were any office jobs available.  He told me that I was about the fifth person to call to get transferred to Atlanta, but there were no positions at the time.  This was a good thing.  Why?  Because this was definitely not God’s timing for us to move.  Oh, and by the way, a few years after that, the Ford plant closed.  God’s timing is the BEST timing!

So now we were waiting for God to say when it was His time for us to move South.  What is God telling you to do?  Move?  Change jobs?  Ask that young lady for a date?  Go back to college? Get your GED?

In August 2012, we began to feel that the time was getting close for us to leave, but we still did not have clarity.  Although our kids knew we would be moving at some point, we did not share that we felt it was getting close because we still had no specifics.  Well, as He has done in the past, God spoke to our daughter while she was at work.  When she came home, here’s what she said, “I was at work last night and the Lord said to tell your parents that it’s time to move to Atlanta.”  My mouth went open and I knew it was confirmation.  When Arthur came home later and Jen told him the same thing, he started rejoicing and began to think okay, probably about two years from now we’ll move.  But, then Jennifer said, “….and He said it will be soon.”  Pop!  That bubble got burst!  Can you say “get ready!”, “get ready!”, “get ready!”?

What is God telling you to do?  Preach?  Teach?  Sing?  Pray for the sick?  Evangelize?  Maybe direct the choir?

Oh, and there’s one more thing…………The Lord also told Jennifer to tell us, “and don’t be trying to take everything”.  No furniture, no pots and pans……just the clothes on our back, important papers, etc.  We felt like Abraham and Sarah when God told them to just “GO”.

But we were as happy as we could be!  Why?  Because we knew and still know we were/are in the Will of God.  What is God telling you to do?  Write a book?  Apply for that job you think you are not qualified for?  Pursue a lifelong dream that you gave up on and feel it’s too late to go back to because you feel you are now “too old” (age truly is just a number)?

The Lord gave Arthur the date of March 30, which was 8 months from when the Lord confirmed that it was time…..and everyone knows what the number 8 means Biblically, right?  NEW BEGINNING……and was it ever!

What is God telling you to do and what is stopping you?  God led us and met us EVERY STEP of the way.  So if there is something that you know that you know God is telling you to do……do it, as you acknowledge Him, he WILL direct your step and lead you down the right path.  But YOU must take the first step!  He’s not going to pull you!

So today, I encourage you as Apostle Rita Johnson encouraged us many years ago……LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP!  Become like Peter and “walk on water”…….meaning do the impossible because with God what man thinks is impossible suddenly becomes possible!  Become a doctor at 60.  Go over to a third world country at 55.  Start a business at 20.  Establish a world wide ministry at 70!       With God……..the sky truly is the limit!

What Are You Battling……and why? THAT BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD!

Standard

This post is for someone that is either facing a battle (the dreaded court appearance”) or in the midst of a battle right now (financial, spiritual, emotional, physical, maybe even mental).

Who’s doing the “fighting”?  You or the Lord?  Are you “going off” on people (creditors, co-workers, Target store clerks) or quietly holding your peace and letting the Lord fight your battle?  Is your hair turning gray from worrying about _____? (fill in the blank)  Is your blood pressure going up because of all the stress?

My favorite Old Testament chapter is II Chronicles 20 where it addresses this.  You see, Jehoshaphat was up against three (3) groups of enemies (what “enemies” are you facing?).  Take a look at verses 14 and 15:

14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel….. in the midst of the assembly.

15 He said, Hearken, all Judah, you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you King Jehoshaphat. The Lord says this to you: Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

There it is in black and white and yet so often we forget…..and try to fight, worry, figure it out ourselves.

Let me tell you a story about what happened when I held my peace and allowed the Lord to fight my battle.  Here’s what happened: Before working at Ford, I used to work for another large company in Michigan.  At one point I had a supervisor that was a former model, dated a very high profile politician, and, uh, let’s just say she would have been an excellent candidate for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”.  One day, I needed to leave work early, so I left a note on her desk letting her know.  When I returned to work the next day, I wound up in the manager’s office.  Why? Because my supervisor told our manager that I had left without telling her. So the three of us sat down in his office. She proceeded to tell him that I had left without informing her.  I opened my mouth to say, “but”; however, before I could hardly even form the word, my manager put up his hand, so I closed my mouth. But inside, I was shouting “but SHE’S LYING!”  But I kept quiet and the Lord went to work (well actually He was at work the day before as you will see). So the manager, listened and nodded as if to say “I understand” as the supervisor proceeded to lie on me. When she was done, you will NEVER guess what happened! My manager said to her, “Val did leave a note for you. I happened to stop by your office and I saw the note on your desk.” Friends, let me tell you……I can’t even type the “words” that came out of her mouth because they were unintelligible (something like….nah, I won’t even take a stab at it).  If I, if YOU hold your peace and let the Lord fight your battle, Victory, Victory shall be mine/yours!

Now we are in a situation where a large company has actually (clearly) lied about something that Arthur said to one of the representatives. But we are assured that if He did it before He CAN (and WILL) do it again!  I will keep you posted on the outcome.  Be encouraged and reminded that not only is the battle NOT yours, it truly belongs to God and if He did it before He will certainly do it again…..so let Him!  Let go and let God:

FINAL INSTALLMENT: THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN? KEEP BELIEVING….!

Standard

So today is Day 5 and the final installment of “That Prophetic Word You Have Been Given?  Keep Believing…..!”

Before I go further, I feel the need to put a “disclaimer”:  THIS FIVE-DAY SERIES IS ABOUT NEVER FORGETTING THE PROPHETIC WORDS THAT HAVE BEEN SPOKEN OVER YOUR LIFE, THE LIFE OF YOUR CHILDREN, YOUR JOB, YOUR CAREER, YOUR MINISTRY, YOUR HEALTH, YOUR WEALTH OR EVEN YOUR EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING.  SO MANY TIMES WE GET DISCOURAGED IF THE PROPHETIC WORDS HAVE NOT COME TO PASS IN A FEW DAYS, WEEKS OR EVEN MONTHS.  THE WORD SPOKEN TO US DID NOT MANIFEST UNTIL 12 OR SO YEARS LATER.  To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Eccl 3:1).   IF GOD SAID IT, HE WILL DO IT.   THOUGH THE VISION TARRIES……..IT WILL COME TO PASS (Habakkuk 2:1-2)!

Last time, our story ended with………In the meantime, I contacted our intercessor and she is so confident that God is going to work things out for us…..AND DOES HE EVER!

And now for the rest of the story……………

Here’s what happened:  We parked our Durango at our home and rented a small car for a day; our mechanic tells us he can come in the morning to take a look at the vehicle.  It was Tuesday night and Arthur and I were preparing to go to Word Explosion (Bible Study).  About a half hour or so before we planned to leave, a friend of mine sends me a text asking me if I know of anyone that wears a size 4 because she has some suits she wants to give away that are now too big for her (yes, she’s serious).   I have not spoken to this friend via phone in about a year and only sent her a text once or twice this year.  After texting back and forth, I send her a “final” text where I inform her that I could not find anyone that wore that size, etc  I then add, by the way, do you know anyone that is selling a vehicle?  We want to pay “X” amount.  This is the amazing part.  Her response?  Yes, I have two vehicles for sale; one vehicle was–yes, you guessed it–a Lexus (see Day 4’s post). So instead of heading to church, we head to meet her and take a test drive.  Remember the two specifics that we asked our intercessor to pray for:  1) we did not want a car note and, 2) that the owner be someone that has maintained the car well.  Well, God truly answered both requests.  Only God, the Creator of the Universe, the Giver or Life, our Jehovah-Jireh (truly our Provider) could have orchestrated this 12 year journey with the results being EXCEEDINGLY, ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL THAT WE COULD ASK OR THINK!  You see, God has more work for Arthur and I to do and we need a dependable and reliable vehicle that will carry us to the North, the South, the East AND the West!  As they say…..”Won’t He do it?!”  Keep believing that what God has said, it will come to pass!  I have posted a pic of our new (new to us for sure!) Lexus and all Arthur and I can say is thank you to the relative who first spoke those Words of Prophecy to us and a very special “thank you” to our friend (you know who you are) for being such a blessing …..but more importantly, we give ALL the Glory, Honor and Praise to our Awesome God!

DAY 4: THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU WERE GIVEN? KEEP BELIEVING…..!

DAY 4:  THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU WERE GIVEN?  KEEP BELIEVING…..!

Around 2002, a relative spoke to us prophetically that one day we would be driving a luxury car (I’m paraphrasing).  This is the story of our journey and the end result.  The goal….to encourage others to NEVER give up on the Prophetic Word(s) that have been spoken to you..NEVER.

The story continues……

We are now in a REAL dilemma; our car is down and at the same time we lost a potential buyer for our 2001 Durango.  BUT…..prayer changes things, right?

During the week, the Lord lays on Arthur’s heart to contact one of the Elders from our church regarding our situation.  So I send him an email letting him know that we are relatively new to Georgia and could he recommend a dealership for us to looking for a used vehicle.  Atlanta is so big and is also fraud city (who knew?) so we needed a trusted source to help guide us to the right place.  We see him at church and he tells us that he has a friend who owns an auction.  He asks me to send him the particulars, so I do.  I send him an email letting him know that we would like an SUV, no more than 5 years old, etc.  However, I also tell him that we are flexible and are open to purchasing a car instead of an SUV.

The Elder goes a step further and does some researching for us.  He sends us what he found…….a picture of a beautiful luxury car (remember the prophecy?).  The picture was of a beautiful white Lexus. He wrote:  “The great thing about a Lexus it will run forever and much cheaper than most cars on maintenance.”  A Lexus?  Will run forever (I’m embarrassed to admit, but I didn’t know that!). Are you serious?  That was not even in our mindset nor even in our thinking……period!  And yet, this one was just a little over the amount we wanted to spend.

Hmmm, so we are now entertaining the thought of heading to the dealership the next day.  But, before we do, Arthur checks with his mechanic and he tells him that that particular model is known to have transmission problems and advises against us purchasing it.  He suggests we go to Craigslist instead of a dealership; in other words, buy from a person and not a dealership.  So we are back to square one…….but now the Lexus (luxury car) SEED HAS BEEN PLANTED.

In the meantime, I contact our intercessor and she is so confident that God is going to work things out for us…..AND DOES HE EVER!  Stay tuned tomorrow for the final installment of………”THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU WERE GIVEN?  KEEP BELIEVING……!”

DAY 3: THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU WERE GIVEN? KEEP BELIEVING…..!

Standard

DAY 3:  THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU WERE GIVEN?  KEEP BELIEVING…..!

But that’s not the end…….fast forward to February 2014

It’s now time for us to sell the vehicle (for real), but it needs to pass the Georgia emissions test.  However, it does not pass–it needs a new PCM (this part is the computer of the engine or something like that).  After part is installed and after an 100 mile or so drive, the car passes emissions test!  We now have potential buyer….Praise the Lord!

One day after church as we are leaving we see some friends, greet them and then continue on to our vehicle (still the Durango).  As we are walking, the Lord suddenly impresses upon me to have one of the ladies we just saw to come into agreement in prayer with us about getting a new vehicle.  So I go back to her giving her a little background because I really don’t know her that well, but she and her husband have connected with us.

Her response?  She tells me that she is an intercessor and that she loves to pray for others (look at God!). So I tell her specifically what we need:  1) We have not had a car note in a long time, so we do not want a note, and 2) We want a vehicle where the owner kept vehicle well maintained.  She says she is honored to pray with and for us..

Back to the potential buyer……the day before the buyer was to come see the car, things go south and we have to tell the buyer we cannot sale the car at all.  So now not only have we lost a potential sale, but we NEED a vehicle ourselves.

We are now in a dilemma, but as you know……prayer changes things, right?

DAY 2: KEEP BELIEVING in the Prophetic Word You Were Given!

Standard

DAY 2:  THAT PROPHETIC WORD YOU WERE GIVEN?  KEEP BELIEVING…..!

Down through the years, we put thousands of miles on our trusty 2001 Durango (we sold the 2000 Durango). It has served us well. We even drove it to Atlanta, when we moved on March 30, 2013. All was going great until August 2013.

In August, Arthur landed in the hospital for six (6) days.  On Day 3 of his hospital stay, I had an interview out in Marietta, GA–which was not close to home.  I was almost to my destination when problems begin to happen as I’m driving.  I begin praying Lord, please let me make it to my interview.  He answers my prayer.  After my interview, car is still having major issues and after getting an oil change (which doesn’t help it), I go to a nearby dealership.  They tell me my transmission is limped (whatever that means).  I pray my way home. That was Friday.  Monday I’m driving Arthur home from hospital–more problems develop after we get off the freeway. Something’s burning. It’s the car and we can only go about 15 miles, but we make it home!

Car sits for a week (8 days to be exact) and we get rides everywhere–to the store, to the doctor’s for Arthur, to church.  The following Monday, our cousin, Jeff Farley, is taking us to another doctor’s appointment. He tells Arthur that he believes the Lord wants him to pray a prayer of agreement with us for our situation.  After returning from the doctor’s Arthur tells him to come inside and he proceeds to pray Heaven down!  Later that afternoon Arthur feels we need to “try the car.” We go outside, lay hands (literally) on the car and pray.  He asks me to drive. I get under the wheel, start it up and we drive with NO PROBLEM (some of you might remember this story).  No delayed shifting of gears, no burning smell. The car drove like it had been driving before it got “sick”.  What a mighty God we serve!

But that’s not the end…….(tune into tomorrow for Day 3 of our journey).

Five-Day Series: That Prophetic Word You Were Given? Keep Believing……. (Day 1)

Standard

Hi all, today is the beginning of a Five-Day Series (only a couple of “cliffhangers”…..lol).  I would say that 90%-95% of the time I am writing it is because the Lord has impressed upon me to do so.  In this case, I felt He wanted me to do this story as a Five-Day Series.  I pray that it blesses you.  So here’s Day 1:

How many of you have had a Prophetic Word either spoken TO you, ABOUT you, FOR you, IN you (meaning you felt in your spirit the Lord speaking to you a specific Word just for YOU about something that was going to happen, a job you were going to get, the person you were going to marry, etc.)?   Without getting into the specifics (unless you want to), would you write in the comments below or send me an email (terpval@gmail.com) telling me 1) has it come to pass, 2) you are still waiting, 3) you’re starting to doubt because it’s been soooo long (years?), 4) anything you want to share about the Word you were given.

Well, we were given a Prophetic Word from a relative approximately 13 years ago.  Of course, there were other Words along the way, but this particular Word is the subject of my five-day series titled:  “That Prophetic Word You were Given?  Keep Believing……”.  The Word we were given was that “I see you all in a luxury vehicle” or that we would be driving a luxury vehicle.  Now this was not a “thus saith the Lord” or “the Lord is saying….”, but in the setting we were in and the context of how it was presented we knew it was more than just something this particular relative was saying to make us feel good.  He was speaking prophetically (whether we knew it or not) and we would NEVER forget his words.

Now along the way when Dodge Durango’s were first coming out, I SAID I really want a Durango.  Something about the vehicle just jumped out at me.  In 2006, the Lord blessed us to be able to purchase not one, but two Durango’s (one was a 2000, the other a 2001)…..life and death are truly in the power of your tongue!  We purchased the 2001 after one of the pastor’s at our church saw it on someone’s lawn. We checked out the vehicle, liked what we saw and so we purchased it and although it was not a luxury car, we definitely knew without a doubt that this was the vehicle that God wanted us to purchase.  The seller took excellent care of the car and kept good records on the maintenance and service done on the vehicle.  This was a great deal!

Down through the years, the Durango has taken us hundreds of miles.  It has served us well.  We even drove it to Atlanta when we moved last April 2013.  All was going great until August 2013.
